Stages of the trip

Day 1: Departure for Colombia

Day 2: Visit of the historical centre of Bogotá, the emeralds and lunch typical of the region

Day 3: Departure to the Amazon jungle

Day 4: Visit of the lakes, immersion in the jungle with a walking tour from branch to branch (canopy)

Day 5: Day of cultural exchange with the Amazonian indigenous people of Cananguchal

Day 1: Departure for Colombia

The D-Day has finally arrived. Departure from France to Colombia.

Day 2: Bogotá, 2,600 meters closer to the stars

Discover the capital of Colombia, which is after La Paz and Quito, the 3rd highest capital in the world.
Start your Colombian experience by visiting the historic centre of the capital, Bogotá. Finish the day in style by discovering the atypical Colombian emerald market.
  • After breakfast, visit the presidential palace, the Palacio de Nariño
  • Continuation of the visit to the Plaza de Bolívar, named after the liberator Simon Bolívar
  • The unique Gold Museum houses the world’s largest collection of pre-Hispanic silverware with more than 35,000 objects.
  • Possibility to taste the typical Bogotá dish, el Ajiaco. It is a soup made from 3 different types of potatoes, corn, chicken and guasca, an aromatic herb, accompanied by sour cream, capers, rice and avocado
  • Start the emerald tour with a walk on Jimenez Avenue, Emerald Street. Emerald is a typical Colombian gemstone, 37% of the world’s emeralds are produced in Colombia. Traders are waiting in the street for gemstone buyers in complete safety. It is a fascinating cultural exchange. This is not a trick to buy emeralds but rather to learn about the informality of certain professions in Colombia.
  • Night in Bogota

Day 3: Amazonian Jungle

Called the lungs of the planet, the Amazon jungle is more impressive than we can imagine. It is home to a wide variety of colourful and incredible species, ancient and mystical cultures.
  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport to fly to Puerto Leticia, the capital of the Amazon department
  • Reception at the airport then transfer to your hotel, a lodge located 1 hour from Leticia
  • From your first hours in Colombia you will be in total immersion with the largest forest in the world
  • Night walk, the forest is very different at night
  • Dinner and overnight in the Amazon

Day 4: Immersion in the forest

  • Visit El Vergel to meet local children who recount the traditional songs and dances of the Ticuna culture
  • Lunch
  • Take a walk on Mocagua Island
  • This island, which is part of the Amacayaku Natural Park, is a unique place to observe local fauna and flora, including the Victoria Regia, the largest lotus in the world
  • Dinner and overnight at the lodge

Day 5: Popayan, the white city

It’s time to slide down this great river and visit one of the region’s main exotic animals, the pink dolphins

  • Enjoy a beautiful sunset on the Amazonas River

Day 6: The world's largest river: the Amazon

  • Take the boat for a trip of about 1.5 hours on the Amazon River.
  • Visit the monkey island, you will be able to play with monkeys who have survived illegal trafficking and who now live in freedom.
  • Detour to Puerto Nariño for lunch and a visit to Macedonia’s indigenous community and surrounding lakes
  • Dinner and overnight at the lodge

Day 7: The city of eternal spring

You will leave the Amazon to visit the city of eternal spring, where the weather is still fine and where it is so good to live today, Medellin.
  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport to fly to Medellin
  • Welcome and transfer to your hotel
  • Night in Medellin in the most lively and exclusive area of the city

Day 8: Medellín, from terror to innovation

Much has been written about the transformation of the city. It has gone from being one of the most dangerous cities in the world to one of the most pleasant in Latin America.
  • Discovery day of the city in its innovative public transport system integrating the working class districts
  • Sharing with the inhabitants of Medellin about their feelings about their history
  • Visit of the Plaza Botero with the sculptures of the renowned Colombian artist Fernando Botero
  • Afternoon free time
  • Night in Medellin in the most lively and exclusive area of the city

Day 9: Colombian Pacific

Declared the wettest area on the planet, it is also the one with the highest number of animal and plant species.
  • Transfer to the airport to catch your flight back to Nuquí
  • Welcome at the airport and transfer by boat for 1 hour to your ecolodge located by the sea
  • Lunch of fresh fish caught in the morning
  • Afternoon free to enjoy the beach
  • Dinner and overnight in Nuquí

Day 10: The magnificent humpback whales

Humpback whales are large mammals characterized by spectacular jumps out of the water, large pectoral fins unlike other cetaceans and a very elaborate song.
  • After breakfast, you will take the boat to observe the magnificent humpback whales in their annual migration
  • After the gestation period, which lasts between 10 and 12 months, humpback whales return to Nuqui to give birth to their babies.
  • They will then stay there until they become stronger to face the cold of Antarctica.
  • Lunch at the daily fishing ecolodge
  • Go for a walk in the forest to the waterfall of love
  • Dinner and overnight at the ecolodge

Day 11: Walks and meetings

In the Nuqui region, the lush forest marries the Pacific Ocean and its magnificent black sandy beaches with a wide variety of fauna and flora.

  • Go on a guided expedition in the forest
  • Visit Piedra Piedra Piedra and Rio Terco and then a native village
  • Take a second boat trip to see the whales again
  • Dinner and overnight at the ecolodge

Day 12: The Pearl of the Caribbean

You leave the Pacific Ocean to arrive on the Caribbean Sea and discover its most beautiful jewel: Cartagena de Indias
  • Early in the morning and after lunch, transfer to the airport to catch your flight from Nuquí-Medellin to Cartagena
  • Arrival in Cartagena and transfer to your hotel within the fortified city
  • Night in Cartagena, a magnificent colonial house

Day 13: The True Face of Cartagena

Cartagena de Indias is a beautiful city in the Caribbean. Now get to know the real Cartagena, the one of the locals, the Cartageneros.
  • After breakfast, you start your guided tour in the old town on foot.
  • Stroll in the residential district of Getsemaní to observe the Cartageneros in their daily lives
  • Departure for the local market. We will taste exotic fruits and taste typical dishes with the locals, where they eat themselves
  • Continuation of the visit to the mangroves near the city. Stroll and anecdotes around the channel of love, joy….
  • Typical lunch by the sea with fresh fried fish, fried plantain bananas, coconut rice and salad
  • Afternoon free to stroll through the charming colourful alleys
  • Possibility to take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage typical of the colonial period
  • Night in Cartagena, a magnificent colonial house

Day 14: Free day in Cartagena

Cartagena de Indias had a key role in the administration of the Spanish empire as well as in the slave trade. Filled with historic buildings and anecdotes of all kinds, the city will not leave you indifferent

  • Possibility to visit Palenque, the first free slave village in the Americas or to spend a day discovering the Rosario Islands located 1 hour away by boat
  • Possibility to visit the castle of San Felipe, former military fortress of the city

Day 15: Return to France

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to take your flight back to France

I am a big fan of animals and this circuit was perfect. We had a great time. Also, the indigenous communities we met touched us a lot, especially by their way of seeing life and nature. They have a lot to teach us. Everything went very well, I am very happy with my trip.
